Deform Placement

The place node can be deformed by any deformers with the method of attaching a place node onto a deforming geometry and lock it by the UV coordinates

Like the below image, the place node is locked onto the mesh and no matter how we tweak the points of the mesh (by the move tool or deforemers) our place node will seemlessly and smoothly deform along with it.

This is done by locking each placer to the geometry by the UV.

Place locked on mesh and mesh points moved.

Instructions

  • Create a polygon mesh and make it the same size of the entire place node.
Please notice that each placer should be on this plane surface

  • Freeze Transformation for this plane Maya > Modify > Freeze Transformations

freeze transform

  • First select place node, second select mesh, click Miarmy > Placement > Attach Range Mesh
  • First select place node, second select mesh, click Miarmy > Placement > Lock Place on Mesh by UV
  • If you see the placement change when you move the points on mesh, that indicates everything setup OK

place lock on to mesh success

  • You can also try to add deformer on mesh:

  • And deform it. the place node will deform with the geometry.
